In the world of art, you will often hear people use the terms tone and value to describe shading within a picture. Though very similar in overall function, each art term refers to a different aspect of shading. Becoming well acquainted with each one, and learning to use it properly, will make a big difference in your ability to communicate artistically with your viewers.
